How to get to Göttingen

The city of Göttingen lies in the heart of Germany in southern Lower Saxony. The city is located directly on the main traffic axis from north to south and is therefore easy to reach by car via the A7 and the B3 and B27 federal roads or by train. There are direct train connections to and from most major cities such as Hamburg, Hanover, Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich.

Arrival by train

The train station in Göttingen is located directly on the edge of the city centre. The central campus can be easily reached on foot or by bus.

On foot

The distance from the train station to the central campus is about 1000 meters.

  • From the station building walk to the main exit

  • From the station forecourt pass many bicycles and head to Berliner Straße

  • There turn left past the post office, stay on the footpath of Berliner Straße - direction east

  • Go straight on past two large traffic light crossings

  • Walk past a gym and a petrol station on your left.

  • Do not walk on the footpath of the Nikolausberger Weg, rather walk on the left parallel to it along the paved path.

  • This path leads to the university campus.

  • You have arrived!

By bus

Take the lines 42 (direction Papenberg), 150 (direction Duderstadt), 170 (direction Duderstadt) to the stop Auditorium or the lines 21 (direction Nikolausberg), 23 (direction Uni-Nord), 180 (direction Nörten-Hardenberg) to the stop Platz der Göttinger Sieben. From there you can reach the central campus on foot in a few minutes. Further information can be found on the pages of the Göttinger Verkehrsbetriebe (goevb).

Arrival by car

Unfortunately, there are only very limited parking spaces around the campus. The two larger parking spaces on campus are the car park at "Platz der Göttinger Sieben" (from Weender Landstraße the entrance is only possible from the south) or the multi-storey car park in "Goßlerstraße".

Arrival from direction south

  • Leave the A7 motorway at exit 73 "Göttingen" and turn right onto Kassler Landstraße / B3 in the direction of "Zentrum".

  • Follow the "Kassler Landstraße" / "Bachstraße" / "Posthof" / "Groner Landstraße" for about 5 kilometres until you reach the intersection "Berliner Straße" / B27".

  • Turn left at the intersection into "Berliner Straße". Stay on "Berliner Straße" for about 1 kilometer.

  • At the end of the street you will see the campus on your left.

Arrival from direction north
  • Leave the motorway A7 at exit 27 "Göttingen Nord" direction "Stadtmitte/Weende".

  • Follow the B3/27 feeder road for about 4 kilometres until you reach the junction B27 / "Hannoversche Straße".

  • Turn right at the intersection into "Hannoversche Straße".

  • Stay on the "Hannoversche Straße/Weender Landstraße" for about 2 kilometres.
